The ‘Year of the Heat Pump’ to be celebrated at GSHPA’s annual conference

The Ground Source Heat Pump Association (GSHPA) has not let the current global crisis hold it back. With recent announcements and pledges from the UK government on accelerating carbon reduction, the Green Revolution and its Ten Point Plan, the GSHPA has embarked on an exciting and challenging year to fulfil these aspirations for heat pumps.

With the appointment of Laura Bishop as Chair of the Association and Edward Thompson as Vice-Chair, the GSHPA represents an ever-increasing membership which encourage the growth and development of ground source energy.

Laura is a strong advocate for heat pumps and believes that heat pumps should be deployed in place of traditional fossil fuelled heating & cooling systems. As a qualified CIBSE Heat Network Consultant, she has influenced the use of heat pumps for low and ultra-low temperature heat networks on local and national levels.

GSHPA promotes its message by raising awareness of the benefits of ground source heat pumps and lobbying for the ground source energy industry on a local and nation scale with consumers and government alike.

Ground Source Heat Pumps (GSHPs) save money. Heat pumps are much cheaper to run than direct electric heating systems. GSHPs are cheaper to run than oil boilers, burning coal, LPG or gas. Other benefits include:

  • Heat pumps save carbon emissions. Unlike burning oil, gas, LPG or biomass, a heat pump produces no carbon emissions on site (and no carbon emissions at all, if a renewable source of electricity is used to power them).
  • Heat pumps save space. There are no fuel storage requirements.
  • No need to managed fuel deliveries. No risk of fuel being stolen.
  • Heat pumps are safe. There is no combustion involved and no emission of potentially dangerous gases. No flues are required
  • GSHPs require less maintenance than combustion based heating systems. They also have a longer life than combustion boilers. The ground heat exchanger element of a ground source heat pump installation has a design life of over 100 years
  • GSHPs are safe, quiet and unobtrusive.
  • Heat pumps can also provide cooling in summer, as well as heating in winter.
  • A well designed ground source heat pump system is likely to increase the sale value of your property.

To celebrate the fact that 2021 is fast becoming ‘The Year of the Heat Pump’, the GSHPA are holding their very own conference of the same name on Friday 22nd October 2021 at the Coniston Country Estate Hotel & Spa, near Skipton, North Yorkshire.

The event, featuring Energy Now as a media partner, will provide a number of opportunities to get together in an informal setting, get expert advice and information with regards to GSHPs in the beautiful surroundings of the Yorkshire Dales alongside some Yorkshire hospitality.

The Conference includes a series of coordinated Expert Panel sessions, presentations, exhibitors and networking events.
