Sustainable biomass production and SFI to be explored at demo event

Case Studies

Sustainable biomass production and the Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) will be the main areas of focus at the Biomass Connect Demo event on Thursday 16th May.

Taking place from 1pm at Headley Hall, Tadcaster, the free event offers farmers the chance to learn more about the SFI schemes and how they promote biodiversity in biomass crops, discover some of the the latest technological innovations and gain valuable insights into the future of biomass production.

The day will begin with a talk from Biomass Connect’s Mark Needham, who will explore the benefits and opportunities offered by biomass crops. The UK Centre for Ecology and Hydrology’s Dr Rebecca Rowe will be discussing the logic and benefits behind the rural payment for biodiversity, followed by Dr Lydia Smith and Jasmine Toole of NIABs Centre for High Carbon Capture Cropping (CHCx3), who will provide guidance on cropping options for carbon capture and storage. Dr Judith Ford from Leeds University will then provide details of the ClieNFarms project, dedicated to the development and scaling up of locally relevant solutions to foster climate-neutral and climate-resilient farms.

A guided tour of the demonstration plots will follow, accompanied by practical guidance on areas including the establishment of crops, measuring biodiversity and how carbon is sequestered.

Further information on the demo day can be found here, including a full itinerary and registration details.
