EnergyDecentral 2022: decentralised energy in focus

Case Studies

Given problems faced by many countries in relation to the security of energy supply, the EnergyDecentral trade fair, focused on the development of decentralised energy systems, has a special role to play this year.

Taking place from 15 – 18 November, at Messegelände in Hannover, Germany, the event will look to map the entire value chain of sustainable energy production, highlighting the opportunities for decentralised energy in the context of a long-term and sustainable energy supply.

The event is held alongside Eurotier, the international trade fair for professional animal farming and livestock management, and features an exhibition and an international technical conference programme. Organisers DLG (German Agricultural Society) expect a combined 1,700 exhibitors from 55 countries to attend the events, with a digital programme, available to view here, accompanying proceedings from October onwards.

Marcus Vagt, project manager of EnergyDecentral (pictured left), said:

“In the current debate about alternative energy supply concepts, decentralised, regenerative energy sources play a prominent role. The exhibition and technical programme of EnergyDecentral is dedicated to this topic and will showcase the latest processes and technical solutions for the optimal use of solar, wind, biogas, biomethane and wood fuel, as well as their storage and utilisation,”

Sector representation

Numerous market leaders as well as young innovative companies and start-ups from the decentralised energy sector will be represented at EnergyDecentral, including AgriKomp, BayWa, Energy2market, Enertrag, Fachagentur Nachwachsende Rohstoffe, Fachverband Biogas, Fliegl Agrartechnik, Fröling Heizkessel- und Behälterbau, Jenbacher Innio, John Deere Walldorf, Next2Sun Technology, NWind, Prodeval, Ruhe Biogas Service, Solarstone, Suma Rührtechnik, VDMA Power Systems, Vogelsang, ZUWA-Zumpe and 2G Energy.

Conference topics

The conference, created with the theme of “Powering new ideas” will look at the future direction of energy supply and includes topic such as:

  • The use of photovoltaics to cover a farm’s electricity consumption, including the increasing electrification of working machines and vehicle fleets.
  • Anaerobic digestion of biomass and biogas treatment, looking at which economic concepts are available after the Renewable Energy Act (EEG) in Germany comes to an end.
  • Hydrogen, as agriculture in particular offers great potential for sustainable green hydrogen.
  • Renewable solid fuels – a way to become independent of expensive heating costs and to supply heating networks with peak loads.
  • CHP technology – the pillar of a standard residual load supply for decentralized energy systems.

Energy Decentral also awards innovation and achievement within the decentralised energy sector, with the ceremony itself held at the show. The 2022 winners have already been announced and include:

  • A gold innovation award for Below2 Inc, who have developed an innovative, high-quality standard for the verification of CO2 certificates in the voluntary market.
  • Silver awards for:
    • SteRo mixing technology GmbH for a modular system to measure substrate speed and viscosity in an AD plant.
    • 2G Energy AG, for its ORC technology that helps increase the efficiency of electricity generation using biogas
    • ETW Energietechnik GmbH for its SmartCool® system which helps to seperate nitrogen, water vapour and hydrogen sulphide contents from biogas
