Scottish farmer fuels machinery with hydrogen

Farmer David Barron, of Nether Aden in Aberdeenshire, Chairman of the Scottish Beef Association (pictured above), has installed hydrogen electrolysers on two of his tractors and a farm jeep in order to operate them using a combination of diesel and hydrogen.

With the support of the Scottish government under the Focus Farm project, Mr Barron initially installed a hydrogen electrolyser, known as ‘HydroGen’ on one of his tractors with a conventional diesel engine to see if it would improve fuel use and reduce emissions.
