Food, Fuel and Farm Decarbonisation: the post-subsidy biogas model

In the UK biogas sector, a novel project is spearheading a shift from the conventional subsidy framework. A new initiative known as ‘Project Carbon Harvest’, aims to:

  1. Generate unsubsidised green gas to inject into the grid
  2. Capture and permanently sequester CO₂ on an industrial scale
  3. Encourage sustainable farming practices and farm decarbonisation

How does the model work?

New biogas plants will make up this model, where corporates, looking to tackle their own net zero ambitions, fund the production of biomethane and GHG removals through long-term offtake agreements – breaking the industry’s long-standing dependence on government subsidy.
